Cecile was born and raised in Porus, and Mile Gully, Jamaica, spending most of her childhood in Mandeville, where her grandfather had previously been mayor. Ce’ Cile discovered music through her father’s friend, Michael “Ibo” Cooper of the Third World reggae band, and released the first single, “Beat of Her Heart.”
She applied her own touch to the classical reggae and brought it to the dance hall. Steven Ventura, director of Celestial Sound Recordings, discovered her in 1995. There came a time when she worked as a studio manager and recorded several demo tapes. The sale of all versions of “Gold Dust” is combined together enabling it to have sold in excess of 400,000 copies, receiving a Gold certification by the BPI, despite not reaching the top twenty of the UK Singles Chart.
